DANCE - Class Schedule
Hocking Valley Dance is committed to the belief that dance improves confidence, concentration, coordination, memorization and discipline.  We offer professional instruction and performance experience for the beginner to professional. We guide young dancers through the world of dance from the ages 3 to professional levels in a positive, nurturing environment. Our faculty of outstanding teachers appreciate the opportunity to share the excitement, challenge and beauty of dance.  ?The creativity, grace and love of dance will enhance your child’s life forever.

Pre School Dance
(Ages 3-4) Class assists the young dancer in identifying basic forms of movement through imaginative games, songs, music and rhythmical patterns while fostering independence. Students will be introduced to the concepts of body, energy, space, & time as well as encouraged to take direction from the instructor and share turns with peers.

Pre Ballet
(Ages 5-6) An introduction to ballet with beginning development of ballet concepts including turn out, coordination, spatial awareness and a specific focus on class etiquette. Students will begin positions of the feet, and introductory movement vocabulary.

Ballet Level 2
(Ages 6 and up) As with each level, students are invited to Ballet Level 2 after they have demonstrated full understanding of the previous level. Body alignment and muscle awareness will determine progress. This class will focus on positions of the arms, direction of the body and increased movement vocabulary. This class meets twice weekly.
Ballet Level 3
In Ballet Level 3, attention is paid to the proper extension of the legs and shape of the feet, developing movement sequences, port de bras and balance. Students will see an increase in difficulty in barre and center work. Students begin focus on repetition and retention. This class meets four times a week which includes 3 technique classes and one conditioning class.
-Depending on individual progression and development, students may be given the opportunity to take pre-pointe and pointe classes later in the year.

Additional Dance Class Option
Level 2 and 3 are given the option to add additional classes to strengthen their core and round out their movement vocabulary. Students may choose from: Jazz, hip hop, and Tap.

Body Conditioning for Dancers (optional for level 2/mandatory for level 3) - Body Conditioning for Dancers uses a combination of Pilates, floor barre and other techniques to improve balance, strength, placement and coordination. This class meets one day a week and is also available as part of a bundle.

Tap - This class teaches the development of tap technique & terminology. Students will further develop skills including musicality and sound clarity with an added focus on increasing speed, and developing style. Advanced level tappers should expect to master double and triple time steps, traveling time steps, 4 & 6 beat riffs, double pull-backs, pick-ups, more advanced turns, as well as more intricate rhythms and improvisation.

Jazz - This class will give students a thorough grounding in jazz terminology and technique while giving them an opportunity to grow as performers. The warm-up and progressions will use classic jazz technique to develop students' musicality, athleticism, alignment and performance. We will use this technical base to explore a variety of jazz styles, including classical, musical theater, jazz funk and lyrical/contemporary.

Hip hop -  is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves. Therefore class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements.

Dance Uniforms
All students(except hip hop class) at Hocking Valley Dance Center must purchase a dance uniform from the pro shop.
We offer uniform packages as well as individually priced items. Uniforms will be ordered and available on your first day of class. Replacement/additional pieces will be available in the pro shop throughout the year.

Hair must be worn in a secure bun for all classes except hip hop. Students are not to wear underwear under tights and extra clothes over uniform are not permitted unless instructed by your teacher.

Dance Instructors
Ms. Christina Daniels- Director. Ms. Christina has a wealth of experience in dance and has been teaching ballet with us for years.  She trained professionally in New York City and owned and operated her studio in Kentucky, The American Dance Conservatory. She has many certifications and a background in exercise science from Marshall University. Her students have appeared on Broadway, with famous ballet companies and are recipients of thousands in dance scholarships.

Steffi Thomas brings an amazing dance background and an infectious energy to every class! Steffi was born and raised in England and trained at Central School of Ballet in London. Steffi has worked and performed with English National Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Peter Schaufuss Ballet and The National Ballet of Ireland. A few of Steffi’s other credits include dancing for the Queen at the Royal Variety show, performing in Shanghai China and Kazakhstan and performing at many corporate events such as The Discovery Channel, Bvlgari, Audi, Honda and Jaguar. Steffi is also a Pilates instructor and has taught ballet and Pilates at BalletMet and in several different dance schools in England and Ireland.
